Taylor Scott Davis

Taylor Scott Davis works have been significantly gaining momentum and recognition. We are thrilled to share that he now has two choral/orchestral signature series to his name - one under his signature with primary publisher EC Schirmer Publishing and a Christmas Suite series with Fred Bock Publishing.

EC Schirmer Publishing has launched the ‘Taylor Scott Davis Choir and Orchestra series’ which features Christmas carols (O Come, All Ye Faithful; Away in a Manger; O Come, O Come, Emmanuel; I Saw Three Ships; Silent Night & Joy to the World) and the following works: Magnificat, Effortlessly from the orchestral concerto To Sing of Love and Stardust with more to be added.

Magnificat has been a go-to choice for choir & orchestras around the world, receiving it’s concert premiere at Carnegie Hall on 25th May, it was also featured as the central work on VOCES8’s festive album A Choral Christmas which received 5* in BBC Music Magazine and was number 11 in the Billboard end of year classical chart 2024. Future performances include at Sir James McMillan’s Cumnock Tryst festival with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra conducted by Eamonn Dougan in October 2025.

The concert premiere of Effortlessly, performed by VOCES8 and Jack Liebeck at the Sydney Opera House, was met with enthusiastic acclaim from both audience and critics. The sold-out concert in the main hall concluded with a standing ovation, and the performance garnered rave reviews across the board (including ‘Sublime and unique text setting and powerful atmospheres graced US composer Taylor Scott Davis’ work, Effortlessly’ Sydney Arts Guide). Effortlessly received its New York premiere in October at Kaufmann Music Centre from VOCES8. Effortlessly which is from the orchestral concerto To Sing of Love also features on the album of the same name, To Sing of Love, released earlier this year by VOCES8 Foundation Choir & Orchestra, Barnaby Smith & Jack Liebeck. The Guardian wrote that ‘these works pull heavily on the heartstrings’ and it contains ‘sweetly glowing passages for choir and violin finally conquering the darker orchestra’ and a BBC Music Magazine review commented that ‘Taylor Scott Davis’ To Sing of Love beguiles’. VOCES8’s latest recording on Decca Classics, Nightfall, includes Taylor’s beautiful ‘Stardust’ as the central focus track by Taylor.

Other works also published by EC Schirmer are More Love which has been recorded by new vocal ensemble Lyyra in addition to Return to Me and How can I keep from singing.

Fred Bock publishing has also launched a Taylor Scott Davis Choral Series with She walks in beauty – a choral selection for mixed voices, harp or piano, again more works will be added as they become available + Christmas Suites

Upcoming world premieres include ‘Poetry of Psalms’ for choir and orchestra, commissioned for Texas Master Chorale’s 40th anniversary (3 May 2025) and ‘Whatever Comes’ and ‘We Lift our Hearts to Thee’ commissioned for anniversaries at Athens United Methodist Church and Custer Road United Methodist Church, in March and June respectively.

Amongst other commissions, Taylor is also writing a new requiem for VOCES8’s 20th anniversary in 2025 and his works will feature in the group’s celebratory concert at The Barbican on 8 June.
