New York premiere & recording news for Jack Liebeck
20 November 2024
A busy Summer saw Jack’s return as Artistic Director of Australian Festival of Chamber Music for his third year, the festival was once again a blockbuster in terms of feedback, tickets sold, and bucking trends here: “Liebeck’s performance was nothing short of brilliant... extraordinarily virtuosic” and here: “AFCM’s canny balancing of the known and the new, the challenging and the comfortable, make it something special in Australia’s music festival landscape.”.
Jack went on to make his debut at La Jolla Summerfest in California, featuring in several concerts throughout the festival and topped with a beautiful performance in the closing concert of The Lark Ascending.
On 30th October Merkin Hall, Kaufman Music Center, New York hosted the premiere of new programme from Jack Liebeck and VOCES8, ‘Flight of the Soul’. The programme centres around The Lark Ascending (here presented in a unique choral arrangement) and Bach Partita No.2 with choral interpolations as well as works by composers James MacMillan, Caroline Shaw, Ola Gjeilo and Christopher Tin. The programme also included the US premiere of Taylor Scott Davis’ ‘Effortlessly’ which raised the roof, and the performance received a standing ovation. ‘Flight of the Soul’ will tour in 25/26/27.
In concerto news, Jack was reunited in Germany with Ewa StrusiĆska & Staatsorchester Rheinische Philharmonie where he performed Beethoven: Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 61 in Koblenz. Also in demand as a recording artist, Jack has been in the studio recording Malcolm Arnold’s Double Violin Concerto with Sasha Sitkovetsky, the London Choral Sinfonia and conductor Michael Waldron for release on 28 February 2025 on Orchid Classics. In December Jack will record the Barber Violin Concerto with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra for release in autumn 2025. Also awaiting release is Jack’s recording of Thomas Wilson’s Violin Concerto with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.
